Student Wellbeing

At St Agatha’s, student wellbeing is at the heart of all we do. We believe that children thrive when they feel safe, respected, and supported. Through a Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support (WSAPBS), we foster a learning environment where every student can flourish—socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically.

Our Framework: WSAPBS

Guided by WSAPBS, we take a proactive, school-wide approach to student behaviour and wellbeing. Our three School Wide ExpectationsRespect, Responsibility, and Safety—are deeply embedded in our school culture and aligned with our Catholic identity, the Gospel values, and our school motto: Courage, Faith, and Love.

We are committed to respecting the sacred dignity of each child, as reflected in all areas of school life. These expectations guide how we learn, play, relate to others, and contribute to our community.

“Education cannot be neutral. It is either positive or negative; either it enriches or it impoverishes; either it enables a person to grow or it lessens, even corrupts him. The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful.” – Pope Francis

What Student Wellbeing Looks Like at St Agatha’s

Student wellbeing is promoted through:

  • Engaging, high-quality teaching and learning that supports all students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.

  • A consistent, supportive, and predictable school environment that encourages children to feel safe and confident.

  • Evidence-based programs and interventions that build resilience, emotional literacy, and strong relationships.

  • Targeted support for students when challenges arise, with services designed to help resolve issues and foster growth.

Programs Supporting WSAPBS

To strengthen our whole school approach to wellbeing and behaviour, we offer:

  • Seasons for Growth – a small group program supporting students experiencing grief and change.

  • Respectful Relationships – a curriculum-based program promoting positive self-worth, respectful behaviour, and healthy relationships.

  • Lunchtime Clubs – such as Quiet Place, Soccer/Footy, and Chess, which offer inclusive, positive spaces for connection and fun.

  • Access to school counselling and personalised wellbeing support when needed.

Creating a Culture of Belonging and Growth

All members of the St Agatha’s community—students, staff, and families—play a vital role in modelling and promoting our expectations of Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. These values are taught explicitly, woven into our curriculum, and lived out in everyday interactions across the school.

Our approach is grounded in:

  • Prevention and proactive teaching

  • Evidence-based practices

  • Use of data to inform decisions

  • Strong school–home partnerships

  • A safe and inclusive school culture

In a spirit of inclusivity, we aspire to live the Gospel, nurturing a community where every child is empowered to grow in truth, goodness, and beauty.
